Exploration of the memory lands of war on the borderlands between Italy and Slovenia.
Memory Lands
The karst regions of the Burren in Co. Clare in Ireland on the edge of the Atlantic and the Carso Uplands on the borders between Italy and Slovenia have similar geomorphologies: both are covered in porous and pitted limestone, where water percolates through the ground via gullies and caves to sunken rivers flowing to the sea. Both regions however, differ vastly in terms of their experiences of war: Ireland's stony landscape has had no experience of conflict in modern times. History tells a different story for the Carso.
